What’s Happening: Upcoming Fourth of July Events

 

With Independence Day falling on a Wednesday this year, we have almost a full week of  Fourth of July-related festivities.  Here’s a quick rundown of what’s happening in Central Oregon.

June 29
NorthWest Crossing Hullabaloo: Food, fun, live music, bike races & more, in a friendly, street-festival atmosphere. 3:30-10 pm. Northwest Crossing Dr. between Mount Washington & Compass Park. 541-382-1662.

June 29-July 1
1776: The Tony-award- winning musical “1776” will be presented in concert by Shore Thing Productions. $20. June 29 & 30 at 7:p.m.; July 1 at 2 p.m. Tower Theatre. 541-317-0700. June 30-

July 1
Sisters Summer Faire: Quality handcrafted arts and crafts, one-of-a-kind gifts, live entertainment & food court. 1- am-4 pm, Village Green Park. 541-549-0251.

July 1 -July 31
Sisters Quilt Walk: In conjunction with the Sisters Quilt Show (July 14), businesses display quilts by local quilters during their regular business hours. 541-549-0989.

July 4
Bend’s Old-Fashioned July 4th Festival & Pet Parade: Children of all ages bring their special pet (dogs, llamas, horses, lizards, goats & lots of stuffed animals) to parade through downtown Bend. Decorating & lineup: 9:30am; parade begins at 10 am. Festival features craft & food booths, old-fashioned games (3-legged races, watermelon eating, water balloon contests) from 11 am-4 pm at Drake Park. Sponsored by Bend Pet Express. 541-389-7275.

Sound Fourth Concert: 75-member Cascade Horizon Band & 70-member Festival Chorus perform an inspirational concert, with patriotic songs, Americana music, Broadway hits & a sing-along.Free; barbecue follows (also free). 3 pm at Bend High School. 541-383-6290.

Fourth of July Barbecue & Blues: Barbecue, with live music by the Taelour Project; proceeds benefit the Vietnam Veterans of America. 6 pm at Jake’s Diner, 2210 NE Highway 20. 541-382-0118.

Bend Fireworks: Launched from the top of Pilot Butte, 10 pm. Free.

Redmond Fourth of July Parade: 10 a.m. Sixth Street from Dogwood to Forest.

Redmond’s FreedomFest in the Park: Games & activities for the kids, live music by 41 East, power breaking by The Freedom Team Power Explosion, free hot dogs & drinks. 11 am-2 pm, Sam Johnson Park (SW 15th & SW Canyon). Hosted by Calvary Chapel Redmond. 541-923-8614.

Redmond’s Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration:  Potato sack races, archery, 3-point shoot-outs, pie-eating contest, water-balloon toss, square dancers, live music, concessions, beer garden & more. 1-9 pm (live music at 7:30); fireworks at 10 pm. Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center. Sponsored by Redmond Area Park & Recreation District. 541-548-7275.

Music in the Canyon:  Red, White & Redmond Blues Festival, featuring Elton Gregory R&B All Stars, The Wasteland Kings & more. 2-7 pm. American Legion Community Park, 850 SW Rimrock Way. 541-504-6878.

Sisters Fourth of July Picnic in the Park benefiting Habitat for HumanitySisters Picnic in the Park & Recycle Run: 8k/5k run/walk from Sisters Athletic Club to Creekside Park (registration 7-8 am). Occasion of Honor for all veterans at 11 am; picnic at noon, featuring live music, games, food vendors, pie contest, silent auction & more. 11 am-3 pm at Creekside Park. Fund raiser for Sisters Habitat for Humanity. 541-549-1193.

July 4-8
Sisters Roundup of Gems: An acre of rock, mineral & fossil displays from throughout the world. 9 am at Sisters Elementary School. 503-829-2680.

  1. It aure would be great to have the 4th of July concert held at the Amphitheater instead of Bend High…just more casual family friendly on the 4th!
