I was surprised to learn that Sisters hasn’t had an official Fourth of July celebration in a while. Well, thanks to the folks at Sisters Habitat for Humanity, that’s about to change.
This year marks the beginning of a new tradition: an old-fashioned Fourth of July Picnic in the Park. The free event, held at Creekside Park, runs from 11:30 a.m- 3 p.m. on the Fourth and includes everything from live music, games and food (you can also bring your own picnic) to a Best Picnic Blanket Contest, All-American Apple Pie Contest and silent auction.
The festivities actually begin before the picnic — with the “Recycle Run,” an 8K/5K fun run/walk sponsored by Sisters Athletic Club. The run starts at the athletic club (registration is from 7-8 a.m.) and ends at Creekside Park.
Perhaps the best thing about the event is that you can have fun and do some good at the same time. All proceeds from the event will go toward helping the home-building efforts of Sisters Habitat for Humanity. For more information, call 541-549-1193.
Hi Lisa~
This is a great post. All of us on the Picnic in the Park committee really thank you for plugging the event on your blog. It is shaping up to be a very fun event. For more information on the “Recycle Run” people can go to the Habitat for Humanity website. Thanks again for all your help and support!
